The 51-year-old Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhon is so highly regarded by her subjects.
Educated primarily in Oriental languages, history, and archaeology, HRH Princess Sirindhon has now taken extensive responsibilities on the preservation of Thailand's cultural and biological heritage.
The Princess is a genius in her own right: speaking numerous European and Oriental languages, authoring numerous books, caricaturing, etc.
In addition, most of the Royal Projects now fall under her patronage. She is the second busiest person I have seen in my life.

I received this story through e-mail on February 16, 2006, and translated it to share with non-Thais here:
"One Sunday afternoon, HRH Princess Sirindhon went shopping at a bookstore in the Emporium Shopping Plaza by the Bangkok SkyTrain. She walked quite a distance from her royal residence to the Siam Square station, accompanied only by two ladies in waiting. Like everyone else, HRH bought her own ticket from a teller machine. There were no special public treatment, no pedestrian round up, no traffic blockade, nothing.
The train arrived fullly occupied. Stepping on it and seeing no vacant seats, HRH held on to the overhead rail bar just like everyone else did. Eventually, a commuter recognized her and gave up his/her seat. HRH smiled and said her thanks before sitting down. The person sat down on the train floor and bowed down to pay respect. Noticing the unusual act, everyone else soon realized HRH's presence among them. They all slipped down to the floor and paid their respect. Teenagers with their pants barely covered their rears all squatted down and put their hands up in “wai.” Everyone in that rail car was beyond ecstatic. HRH was smiling at them all the way. After the book shopping, HRH returned the same way she went.
